bARN

New England Character

STONINGTON, CT

Located on a scenic country road, this 2,000 square foot post & beam barn recalls a New England building type in its straightforward massing and traditional shingled exterior. The building encompasses a ground floor garage and lean-to shed. The second floor studio, office and sleeping loft are open to the rafters with views of the landscape through large casement windows. The barn is constructed with structural insulated panels, exposing the heavy timber framing on the interior. The project also included new decks and landscape terraces around the existing house. The decks are constructed with IPE planking and surrounded with stainless-steel cable rail.
