OLD LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM

Lighthouse Restoration

STONINGTON, CT

Meg was a founding member of the Stonington Historical Society’s Lighthouse Committee. The goal was to stabilize the original stone building while improving its function as an exhibition space for the Museum’s collection. The Committee interviewed and appointed architects, Oudens Ello, who designed a thoughtful new Visitor’s Center and outlined how the lighthouse could be restored. As construction began on the first phase of restoration, Meg was engaged as an Owner’s Representative, assisting the building committee from mobilization through the punch list. As with many renovation projects, unknown conditions needed to be navigated and the budget needed to be carefully monitored. Many of the mechanical and electrical upgrades were performed with surgical precision to make renovation work seamless and nearly invisible. The second phase of construction –the new Visitor’s Center– is expected to begin in 2024.
