UNITED THEATRE

Historic Theatre

WESTERLY, RI

The United Theatre in downtown Westerly combines an historic movie theatre with the adjacent Montgomery Ward department store, to create a new state-of-the-art facility for cinema, performance, music education, and community engagement. In spring 2020, Meg was engaged as the Owner’s Representative on the United Theatre to help bring the project to completion at the height of the Covid 19 epidemic. Duties included:

  • Daily site visits to review construction progress and monitor sub-contractor activities

  • Weekly meetings with the Construction Manager, the sub-contractors,and the design team to stay on top of coordination issues as they arose

  • Review of Change Orders, project schedules and requisitions

  • Bi-weekly presentations to the Building Committee to report on progress

With a project as complex as the United Theatre, we had to weigh manpower issues with public health protocols, supply chain slowdowns with schedule obligations, cash flow with the overall budget. Because the theatre was seeking Federal and State tax credits, the project schedule was of prime importance. The United Theatre successfully received its Certificate of Occupancy and opened its doors in July, 2021.
